About the Studio
The Play Theatre Studio is a drama studio that specializes in, you guessed it, PLAY! With emphasis on self expression, consent, and sharing of power, professional artists lead participants towards the creation of new works - even (or especially!) the littlest of littles in our community. Make art, design, devise, fumble and fiddle through engaging collaborative processes - there’s a program for everyone at The Play Theatre Studio. From wee babes to teens to emerging artists - all classes are offered with a process-first approach.
Small group sizes allow everyone to be hands on, heard and celebrated in their unique human expression.
About the techniques
Process-based art emphasizes the journey of creation over the final product, inviting both artists and audiences to engage in exploration and experimentation. This approach prioritizes the methods and experiences involved in making art, often incorporating spontaneity, materials, and the artist's emotional state. Each work becomes a reflection of the artist's unique process, allowing for a deeper connection with the viewer as they witness the evolution of ideas and techniques. Embrace the imperfect and challenge traditional notions of success!
Sensory theatre is an innovative form of performance that engages the audience’s senses, creating a rich, multi-dimensional experience. Tailored for individuals of all abilities, it incorporates elements such as sound, touch, smell, and visual stimuli to evoke emotional responses and foster connection. An immersive approach can transform any space into a vibrant environment where stories come to life through interactive elements. Encourages participation and exploration, and aims to be accessible for all.
Devised theatre is a unique form of performance creation that invites participants to collaborate, innovate, and share their stories in an ensemble setting. Through a series of workshops, individuals will explore improvisation, character development, and collective storytelling. Artists engage with fellow participants, exchanging ideas and refining a collective artistic vision, bringing original narratives to life.
